Georgian Turquoise Lute Pendant

A rare and exceptional antique Georgian turquoise lute pendant locket. Mounted throughout with a beautiful collection of turquoise cabochons, Mounted with a graduation of cabochon turquoise to the surround of the lute’s body with rich foliate engraving within. The lute is wonderfully formed in three dimensions in the classical profile with four strings and tuning keys. Worked to the centre of the sounding board, beneath the four individual strings, is a beautiful carnation, acanthus leaf and oak leaf detailing, expertly chased and worked in rose, yellow and green golds. The bombe body to the reverse is hinged and opens to reveal an interior oval crystal vitrine. The lute is suspended from two circular trace chains to a period textured bale pendant fitting. Hand crafted in rich 18 carat yellow, rose and green gold. Within a fitted case by Wartski and dating to circa 1830.
